On the Road Again!  Cardiff University – Founded in 1883, Cardiff University is one of Britain’s leading research universities.  Here are some of the highlights:

  • The capital city – Cardiff University has a student body of 33,000 and is situated in the heart of Cardiff, the capital city of Wales, with a population of about 480,000. Cardiff is one of the UK’s most affordable student cities. How many cities have a castle right in the center?  The castle adds to the charm of this vibrant but very manageable city with excellent train access to London and other major cities.  Cardiff has a lot of character and is the site for many films and TV shows including Dr Who and Sherlock.
  • Degree programs and affordability – Like many universities in the UK, Cardiff offers a bachelors degree in three years, thus saving a full year of tuition compared to US universities. Tuition starts at approximately $23,000/year, subject to exchange rate fluctuations, and scholarships are available.
  • Research – Cardiff University is known for its research and it part of the prestigious Russell Group.
  • Campus – The campus is integrated into the city but, with the exception of the medical school, it only takes 15 minutes to walk from one end to the other. The university benefits from a new, state of the art, multi-million dollar student center.
  • Areas of Study Cardiff University offers many different areas of study but is particularly well known for its neuroscience program. The school of journalism is also highly ranked with instructors from the BBC, right down the road from the university.
  • Extracurriculars Given the diversity of the student body, there is something for everyone. One highlight is the cycling club which utilizes the university’s velodrome.  Music is essential to life at Cardiff and to Wales overall.  There are excellent facilities for music instruction and performing arts opportunities.
