On the Road Again!  Jacksonville University

What is not to like about a campus on the river with a floating classroom? One of the premier programs at Jacksonville University is its marine science major.  This program offers many research opportunities including working with sharks, partnerships with a state fish and wildlife lab and a lot of hands-on experiences.  The river also provides opportunities for the sailing and rowing teams and a variety of water sports.

But Jacksonville University also offer many opportunities for other students.  Jacksonville has colleges for students with various interests including the College of Arts & Sciences, the Davis College of Business & Technology, the Brooks Rehabilitation College of Healthcare Sciences, and the Linda Berry Stein College of Fine Arts & Humanities.

A few highlights of these colleges are:

  1. College of Arts & Sciences includes two institutes: marine science institute and public policy institute as well as the school of social sciences and education with a major focusing on sustainability.
  2. Davis College of Business & Technology includes financial technology, health care administration, cybersecurity, game design, data science, aviation and military science and integrated business and engineering. Aviation students start flying in the first year.  Students can participate in an international internship in Sorrento, Italy.
  3. Brooks Rehabilitation College of Healthcare Sciences includes several nursing tracks as well as accelerated programs allowing students to obtain a second bachelor’s degree. Students in nursing have access to a nursing simulation lab with mannequins who can do just about anything, a digital cadaver table and clinical work in hospitals starting in the first semester.
  4. Linda Berry Stein College of Fine Arts & Humanities includes not only BA and BFA programs in the performing arts, but also media arts. The school emphasizes a connection between the arts and business.

Many students graduate with more than one major or a bachelor’s and master’s degree.   But there is life outside of academics include a wide variety of clubs.  Students can participate in Greek life and athletics.  Sailing and lacrosse are particularly strong sports.

But perhaps the best part about Jacksonville is the strong support and individualized attention given to students both inside and outside the classroom.
